The history of China's ancient scrolls reveals that the origin of the system of public holidays dates back to the Warring States Period. During this era, filled with strategy and innovation, there is documented evidence of public officials taking leave. The record of Shang Yang, who retired due to false accusations of treason after the ascension of King Hui of Qin, provides us with actor's evidence regarding the leave system for public officials at the time as chronicled in the 'Strategies of the Warring States.' While the specifics of the public holiday system during the Warring States period, such as the number of days off and the method of taking them, are not extensively recorded in the literature that survives, the 'Book of Sui' confirms that the states of the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States periods paid considerable attention to the holiday system for officials.
